How to Enjoy Christmas with Crutches
Christmas is a time when your family members and friends gather and celebrate. There are a lot of things that you enjoy doing such as shopping, baking, getting together with others, having parties, decorating, and so on. This year, however, you are stuck on crutches, and you might have a rather “bah-humbug” attitude about the season. After all, you can’t do much shopping without wearing yourself out…your holiday decorating is nonexistent…and baking is harder than ever before. There are so many things you can’t do that it is hard to focus on the overall joy of the holiday. Here are a few hints to help you enjoy Christmas, despite your crutches!

Tip#1: Keep Family at Eye Level
Remind yourself that your family is more important than any cookie dough, present, or decoration. Christmas can be fun because of those things, but they are not the definition of the holiday itself. If you keep your family in your sights and remember that you are blessed just for having them in your life, you will enjoy Christmas even on crutches.
Tip#2: Remember the Reason for the Season
Again, all of the things that go along with Christmas such as presents, cards in the mail, and bright lights are wonderful fun. But when it boils down to it, the holiday was not created to celebrate presents, cards, and bright lights. Rather, it was created to celebrate the birth of Christ. No matter what your condition, you can always enjoy that fact.
Tip#4: Have Perspective
You may feel rotten about having to spend such a big holiday on crutches, but keep your life in perspective. Your injury is something that will heal, and by next year, you will likely be back to your old self. Keep in mind the fact that you could have been injured much worse and there are many out there that have it much harder than you do. Next year, you might find yourself looking for ways to help people that are in situations similar to yours this year!
When Christmas rolls around, it is easy to wallow in self-pity. The weather is usually cold, and it’s dark outside, and you can’t get around as you did in the past. However, no matter how sorry you feel for yourself, keep in mind that Christmas brings with is a season of joy, no matter what your condition. There are plenty of ways to see the good in Christmas, even if you ARE on crutches this year.
