When you are facing the winter and the holidays that come along with that season, there may be many things you look forward to doing and enjoying. However, when you are on your best crutches, there are some things you might not feel you can do. Here are a few tips to help you cope with your crutches over the winter holidays.
Tip #1: Let guests come to you
Instead of trying to do from place to place and attend all of the holiday parties, it might be better to have the party yourself this year. You don’t have to put a lot of work into the gathering, but if you want to see friends and family members, allow them to come to you either all together or one at a time. That way you don’t have to leave your house and you still get to enjoy some of the festivities and friendly faces.
Tip #2: Upgrade crutches
If you have to venture out of your house and there is snow and ice on the ground, you are about to embark upon a very dangerous outing. In order to ensure that you are as safe as you possibly can be, you need to make sure your crutches are in tip top shape. Check the tips and if they are showing any wear at all, change them out for new ones.
Tip #3: Stock up on entertainment
Since you might not want to go out unless you absolutely have to, the best thing you can do for yourself is think up some things to do after foot surgery at home. That might mean new board games to enjoy with your family, a magazine subscription, a movie subscription, or a library card. Whatever you find entertaining stock up on those items and endure the recovery from foot surgery with as much fun as possible.
Tip #4: Enjoy it
Let’s face it, you’re a busy person. You have work, the grandkids and all of the other activities you are involved in. How often do you get a chance to sit at home and catch up on books and magazines? Of course recovery from foot surgery isn’t something you can fully enjoy, but take advantage of the time you have been given and try to be thankful for the extra time at home.
